NOW TV vs Sky Sports vs TellyPal for the league

You’re staring at another massive telly bill wondering if there’s a better way to watch the Premier League without breaking the bank. The NOW TV vs Sky Sports vs TellyPal Premier League debate is keeping Irish football fans up at night, especially when Sky Sports is charging €105-139 monthly and NOW TV isn’t much better at €40+ per month.

Here’s the brutal truth: you’re potentially throwing away €1180 every year by sticking with traditional providers. TellyPal offers four one-off subscriptions: 6 months for €70, 10 months for €100, 24 months for €180, and Lifetime for €300 with six years of guaranteed service. The 6- and 10-month plans add €15 per player for lifetime player activation only when TellyPal needs to activate that player; your own working player has no initial activation charge. Initial activation is included on the 24-month and Lifetime plans. Buying two subscriptions gets a third account free on every plan. Neither plan renews automatically. That’s a saving that could fund your season tickets instead.

NOW TV vs Sky Sports Cost Breakdown: The Numbers Don’t Lie

Let’s cut through the marketing waffle and look at what you’re actually paying for Premier League football in Ireland. The differences are staggering when you break down the annual costs.

Sky Sports Ireland will set you back €105-139 monthly, which works out to €1260-1668 per year. That’s before you factor in installation fees, equipment rental, and the inevitable price hikes that come with long-term contracts.

NOW TV Sports appears cheaper at first glance with monthly passes around €40, but that’s still €480 annually. Plus, you’re limited to streaming only – no recording, no pause and rewind during live matches, and the quality can be patchy during peak viewing times.

Channel Comparison: NOW TV vs Sky Sports vs TellyPal

Sky Sports gives you access to Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League, Sky Sports Football, and Sky Sports News. That’s solid Premier League coverage, but you’re paying premium prices for what’s essentially four dedicated sports channels.

NOW TV Sports offers the same Sky Sports channels through streaming, but you’re limited to two concurrent streams and the quality maxes out at 1080p. No 4K, no HDR, and definitely no recording capabilities for those late-night matches.

TellyPal's wider catalogue includes 54,000+ live channels, 168,000+ films and 44,000+ series. For live football, ask the TellyPal team to confirm your requested fixture, channel and device before paying. A large channel list does not establish that every Sky Sports or TNT Sports feed is available.

A bigger channel list does not tell you whether your match is available. Compare the exact fixture, channel and device before choosing a service.

Premier League Coverage Compared

For the current rights cycle, the Premier League lists Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Premier Sports for the Republic of Ireland. Rights vary by territory, so a UK match allocation should not be treated as an Irish package promise.

Check NOW TV's current Irish sports package against the fixtures you want to watch. Confirm the selected match and any required add-on with the provider before comparing the total cost.

For TellyPal, send the TellyPal team the teams, match date and device you want to use. Confirm the requested channel, then use the free 24-hour trial with no card required to test playback. A trial of one channel cannot establish coverage for the whole season.

Kevin Quirke from Dublin explains: ‘No buffering whatsoever. The choice of channels, movies, and series is unreal.’

Picture quality and playback depend on the requested stream, player, device and broadband connection. Try the channel on your own setup at the time you normally watch. One successful test does not guarantee every future match will play without interruption.

Reliability and Performance

Sky Sports through satellite is rock-solid reliable – when the weather cooperates. Heavy rain or snow can knock out your signal right when Haaland’s about to score. The picture quality is excellent, but you’re tied to watching on your main telly unless you pay extra for multiroom.

NOW TV’s reliability is hit-and-miss. During major matches, their servers struggle with demand. You’ll experience buffering, quality drops, and occasional complete outages during the biggest games of the season. It’s particularly frustrating during penalty shootouts or last-minute winners.

See Trustpilot for the current rating and latest independent reviews. The service uses multiple server locations and adaptive streaming technology to maintain consistent quality even during peak demand.

Chris Coyne, a long-term customer, confirms: ‘Stayed with TellyPal for years — 4K, freeze-free.’

A broadband speed figure alone cannot guarantee a clear picture or prevent buffering. Test the requested channel on the device and connection you plan to use, then ask the TellyPal team for help if playback is poor.

Setup and User Experience

Sky Sports requires a technician visit, satellite dish installation, and a set-top box that takes up space in your entertainment center. The whole process can take weeks from order to installation, and you’re locked into watching on specific tellies.

NOW TV is app-based, so setup is quicker, but the interface is clunky and the search function is terrible. Finding specific matches or highlights requires too much clicking around, and the lack of recording means you can’t pause live matches.

Ask the TellyPal team which player route suits your chosen device: Firestick, smart telly, phone, tablet, laptop or Mac. Confirm the specific fixture and channel, then test that route during the free 24-hour trial before paying.

Test the device you actually plan to watch on. A successful stream on your phone does not confirm that the same player route or picture quality will work on your smart telly.

Contract Flexibility and Cancellation

Sky Sports locks you into 12-24 month contracts with hefty early termination fees. Try to cancel mid-contract and you’ll pay the remaining months in full. Their customer retention team will put you through the wringer trying to keep you subscribed.

NOW TV offers monthly flexibility, which sounds great until you realize you’re paying €40 monthly for limited content. Cancel and restart repeatedly, and you’ll miss matches during the gaps. Plus, there’s no pause option if you’re going on holidays.

TellyPal has no contracts whatsoever. Neither TellyPal plan renews automatically. See the refund policy. Not happy within 90 days of your first payment? Ask for a refund under that policy.

David McCarthy highlights the support quality: ‘Support is quicker than Lewis Hamilton from the grid.’

The free 24-hour trial requires no payment details. Use it to test the requested channel on your own device and connection before paying. If your fixture falls outside the trial window, ask the TellyPal team to confirm its channel separately; the trial cannot prove future availability.

Customer Support Showdown

Sky Sports customer service is notorious for long hold times and scripted responses. Getting through to someone who can actually help with technical issues often takes multiple calls and hours of your time. Their online chat is frequently offline when you need it most.

NOW TV support is marginally better but still relies heavily on automated responses and FAQ pages. When streams fail during big matches, you’re often left troubleshooting alone while missing crucial moments.

Our team offers WhatsApp support seven days a week, with staff in Ireland and elsewhere. Late-evening replies can take longer, and no response time is guaranteed. See the contact page for help and escalation. Real people who understand IPTV technology and can solve problems quickly. No phone trees, no hold music, no being transferred between departments.

Maria A. from Galway shares her experience: ‘the TellyPal team was so lovely to deal with and so helpful.’

The support team proactively monitors service quality and often resolves issues before customers even notice them.

The Verdict: Which Service Wins?

For pure Premier League coverage at traditional quality, Sky Sports delivers – if you can stomach paying €1260-1668 annually. The reliability is good, the picture quality excellent, but you’re paying premium prices for basic sports content.

NOW TV makes sense if you only want Premier League matches occasionally and don’t mind missing BT Sport fixtures. At €480 annually, it’s cheaper than Sky but still expensive for what you get. The reliability issues during big matches are a major drawback.

TellyPal is the clear winner for value-conscious Premier League fans. For Irish Premier League fans, the useful comparison is the total cost of watching the fixtures they actually want. Check the requested channel and device with the TellyPal team, try the free 24-hour trial, and compare the flexible pricing options before paying.

Alan Watson sums it up perfectly: ‘After years of IPTV services, TellyPal is by far the best.’
