Check Irish broadband before you stream

Use ComReg to look up the connection options at your address. For the connection already installed, test where the telly sits at the time your household normally watches.

Check the address and the actual room

Enter your Eircode or address in ComReg’s Broadband Checker and note the technology listed. Then run a test near the telly. The checker describes availability or plans for that address. A speed test on the actual connection shows what reached the room at that moment.

Compare the same programme twice

Try a weekday viewing slot and a busy evening when someone else in the house is online. Keep the programme and device fixed. If the router is in a different room and you can temporarily run a cable, a wired comparison can help you decide what to investigate next.

Use the result before signing up

A better result by the router gives you a reason to check Wi-Fi placement. Similar results on the two connections give support a more useful report if a programme still stops. Include the device, time and connection method when asking for help.
